Amazing Artists...

We painted the amazing sunflowers in our school garden before they wilted and died.
We are really proud of our work!
Here is the poem we wrote...

Tall towering
Bright and bold
Leaves wobble in the light warm breeze
Fluttering like bird's wings
Yellow petals sparkle like the sun
Prickly light green stalks
short and tall
SUNFLOWERS

A New Year in H3, 2017...

Here we are on our first day in H3.  We welcomed Tom from China.  He will be in our class for three weeks.  Tom wants to speak lots of English while he is with us.
Tom and his family gave each of us a beautiful gift with jingly bells - thank you Tom!

H3 goes swimming...

H3 is going to the swimming pool every day to do swimming lessons.  We were all given new swim caps today to wear in the pool. We need to remember to bring them them to school every day while we are swimming, like a boomerang!

Ronald McDonald Comes to School...

Yesterday we arrived at school to find a big surprise.  Ronald McDonald was coming to visit us!

He had big, long, red, shiny shoes; yellow overalls; a painted white face, with rosy red lips, and soft red hair like a big bowl of jelly!

Ronald McDonald told us a story about keeping safe on and around roads.
We need to remember to...
 * use the pedestrian crossing
 * walk on the house side of the footpath
 * look out for sneaky driveways
 * stop, look and listen before we cross the street

Thank you for visiting our school Ronald McDonald, please come back to visit us again soon.

Frost Morning in North East Valley...

We went outside yesterday morning to feel the icy frost.  We put on our winter clothes...hats, scarves, gloves and jackets.  It was freezing out there but Mrs S made us take off our gloves for a best hand print competition!   Our breath was steamy like a dragon breathing smoke.  Our school was like a big ice skating rink.  The ice glistened like Matariki stars.  The frozen grass crunched under our feet.  Brrrr.....

It is raining today...

Lots of us were feeling tired on this rainy Matariki morning!  So we did some Jump Jam to wake ourselves up and get us moving and grooving for the day. We spent a little bit of time finishing off our sun art, after reading Maui and the Sun.  Now it is time for writing...

Rain, rain, rain... and more rain...

Here is our school playground yesterday afternoon.  The seagulls were having fun!  I hope you are keeping warm and dry at home today.  See you all tomorrow.  Mrs S.

Pyjama Dress Up Day...

We felt weird and a little bit excited when we came to school last Friday.  We saw people wearing pyjamas and onesies and costumes to school!  We cared for the people in Nepal because there was a big earthquake there, and lots of people died.  The houses fell down, all their food and drinking water got destroyed, and we wanted to help.
We dressed up and and brought a donation to school.  We raised $365 to help the people in Nepal.  We think it might help the people to get some food and clean the water so it is safe to drink.

H3 in sunny February

Here we are on a summery day way back in February.
Now we are back at school  at the beginning of term 2 and it wasn't so sunny today.
We are going to try hard to post on our blog each week...so keep checking it out!

Hats...

It is term 4.  I am very impressed that so many children have their hats at school.  We look after ourselves by being sunsafe.  Remember ...no hat, play in the shade.

Artists...

Here we are as artists in action.  Watch the blog to find out what we are creating...

Swimming Lessons...

Last week we did swimming lessons at DNI pool. We were learning to kick on our back, dive into the pool and turn on our backs, blow bubbles under water, make big circles with our arms, swim a whole length, frog kick and scull on our backs.
We were all very excited about swimming because we got to do lots of different things.

Kids can Cook...

Last week Chris from Kids can Cook, brought his mobile kitchen to our school.  He made crepes with chopped silverbeet and grated apple.  We had to taste test the crepes like masterchefs.  We had to rub our chins, rub our tummies and use our thumbs to show if we liked it or not.
Jasmine was chosen to be Chris's trusty sous-chef.  She did a great job!
Here are James, Finn, Abigail and Nell with their verdict.  It was positive.  We love fruit and vegetables in room 10!

Butterfly Flies Away...

Last Wednesday our first butterfly emerged out of its chrysalis.  The wings were floppy because they were wet.  We had to wait for them to dry.  After lunch we carefully put it on the honeysuckle plant outside our classroom.
"It was soft, spiky and sharp when it crawled on my hand," said David.
After school the butterfly had disappeared.  Holly thought it might have gone to the gardens.  Ben thought it might have gone to explore the world!

Sunflowers...

In room 10 we went up to the community gardens and looked at sunflowers.  We made sunflowers out of paper...we had to cut out petals  and a stalk.
We planted them in a colourful pot.  We painted a back ground in blue.
It is like having a sunflower garden in room 10.

The Caterpillar Poem...

We have monarch caterpillars in room 10.   We thought about what caterpillars look like, what they do and how they move.
All of the words had to start with the letter ...c.
Can you spot your caterpillar?

Book Character Day 2013

A few weeks ago we dressed up as our favourite book characters.  We had a parade with the whole school.  The teachers chose the best dressed characters and they got a prize of a book.  Callum liked it because he got to see everybody else's costumes and he thought Spongebob Stijn was pretty cool!

Reading with Room 2....

Every Friday we have buddy reading with room 2. It is fun when we read with room 2 because they read to us and sometimes we read to them.  We like reading with the big kids because...
it is just like a mum reading to you (Tom);
 they are great readers and they make us feel happy(Chiara); sometimes we get to choose the books(Lucia);
and it is just cool reading and spending time with the big kids.

The Adventure of Mr Whiskers...

Mr Whiskers packed his mice stuff and set off to the ferry boat to London.  He packed his mice sandwiches, mice checkers, and mice sleeping bag.  Halfway there the boat sank. Mr Whiskers had to get his magic bike out of his suitcase.  He set of for London on the water.  The first thing he saw was the Queen's castle with banana guards.  The Queen's head was poking out of the window.
"Oh that cat is handsome," she said.  A mouse came out from under the ground.  The cat pounced on the mouse.  Then the queen screamed because the mouse was her pet.  Sadly the cat went back home on a pirate ship.  It was not a nice adventure.

Handwriting Stars....

In room 10 we try to be the best handwriters we can be.
We put letters on the line.
We make tall letters go to the top of the line.
We keep our letters all the same size.
We leave even spaces between words.
We keep our letters close together inside words.

Look at Stijn and Ethen's outstanding handwriting!

Duckie Duck...

We read a book called Duckie Duck.  He liked to do different things.  When all the other ducks went flying, Duckie Duck went in a hot air balloon. When all the other ducks are asleep Duckie Duck goes outside with his flashlight.  When all the other ducks go swimming, Duckie Duck goes in a boat.  When all the other ducks eat grass Duckie Duck has a picnic basket.  Duckie Duck likes to do his own thing.
We painted Duckie Duck...we hope you enjoy looking at them!
Can you find your Duckie Duck?

Here comes the sun...

We read Maui and the Sun and created our own sun designs from the legend.  Maui wanted to slow the sun so he had time to fish and hunt in the daylight.
Here in Dunedin we just want to see the sun...

Cross Country 2013....

Well the weather wasn't as kind as it could have been but it was a cross country race after all!  The children were determined and they all completed it ...well done room 10!  I tried to get action shots of all the children but my camera was a bit slow and the children were a bit fast.  But you can certainly see the determination on some of these faces...
