Artists at Work

Today we worked with clay again with Miss Little. We made cat faces. We had to use sludge to join the clay pieces together. Sludge is a mixture of clay and water and it acts like a glue. We also had to score the pieces of clay that we wanted to join together.

Making Spring Flowers with Clay

Today Miss Little showed us how to create spring flowers using clay. We had to pinch the sides of our clay tile to make petals. Then we had to smooth little hollows into the petals using our fingers. Now we have to wait for our clay flowers to dry before we can paint them.
Here are Kane, Jazmin and Silva working with great focus.

Handwriting Star

Silva is our handwriting star this week. Well Done
Silva! Silva knows how to keep her handwriting on the line, her letters
are all the same size and all of her tall letters reach the top of the
line. Silva has a handwriting holiday for a week.

Shot Put Athletes

We were shot putters today at maths time. First we had to estimate how far we could throw the tennis ball. then we threw it and measured how far it had gone, using our feet. We are getting really good at estimating.

Measuring with our feet

We are learning about measuring distance with Miss Little. Today we had a mini Olympics at maths time. With our partners, we had to estimate how far we could jump, and then we had to measure the distance using our feet. We have to make sure we measure heel to toe and don't have any gaps. Very good measuring Ramanaia and Britney.
Our homework this week is all about measuring things at home.

Working with Clay

Miss Little, our college teacher, is working with us for
the next three weeks. We are so lucky to have two teachers. Today
Miss Little let us experiment with clay. We rolled it, coiled it, poked
it, prodded it, made patterns on it, squished it, squashed it, joined
it and smoothed it. We had so much fun with clay.
Next
week we are going to work with clay again and create some masterpieces.
Look out for these on our blog.

Making Chocolate Brownie

Today we made chocolate brownie at school. Yum. We are learning how to write recounts. Recounts are when we write about something that we have done. We need to remember to write our ideas in order and use joining words like first, then, next, after that and finally. After we had made our chocolate brownie we planned our recount. Tomorrow we are going to write our recounts.
By the way the brownie was scrumptious.
