Assembly Performance # 3
We finished our performance with our rakau. I know the children really enjoyed performing. We hope you have enjoyed watching. Let us know.
Many thanks to Paia (Andre's mum) for giving up her valuable time and expertise to help us.

Assembly Leaders
Ben and Hamish did a great job of leading assembly on Friday. They used such clear voices and helped each other.
Handwriting Star
Well done Akif. You have been working hard to make sure you write all of your letters properly, especially your a's and d's.

Tangaroa's Gift
We read the Maori legend "Tangaroa's Gift." Paua was sad and lonely. He was slow and ugly. Tangaroa, who is the Maori god of the sea, made Paua a beautiful shell, using blue from the ocean, green from the forest, pink from the sunset and violet from the dawn. He covered the outside of the shell with the colour of rocks so the other sea creatures would leave Paua alone.
We painted the paua shell using dabbing techniques. We finished it off with shiny gold koru shapes. We think they are fabulous!
Keeping Safe around Dogs
Ros and Switch came to visit our class last week. Ros is a dog control officer and works for the Dunedin City Council. Switch is her very patient and calm dog. He just wanted to have a sleep in the sunshine!
Ros spoke to the children about how to approach dogs if they want to pat them. She also spoke about how to behave if a dog comes running up to you.

Fabulous Handwriting
We have so many fabulously neat handwriters in room 10. Aryana is our handwriting star this week. Aryana has been working hard to make her letters sit on the line. Keep up the great work Aryana.

Handwriting Star
Amelia has worked really hard to be the handwriting star. She writes really neatly now in all of her books - not just her handwriting book. That' s great perseverance Amelia.
Cheese and silverbeet muffins
We have a very healthy crop of silverbeet in our garden. We used a bunch of silverbeet last week to make cheese and silverbeet muffins. They were hot and steamy and scrumptious. Amelia wrote, "I bit into the muffin. Steam came bursting out. It was hot and tasty!" They wer perfect with a dollop of melting butter. YUM!!
Icy Poems
Last Tuesday morning we had such a big frost in North East Valley. We went outside to explore the frost. Brr... it was so cold we could see our breath.
The children wrote some fabulous frost poems. Here are some of them...
