Tangaroa's Gift
We read the Maori legend "Tangaroa's Gift." Paua was sad and lonely. He was slow and ugly. Tangaroa, who is the Maori god of the sea, made Paua a beautiful shell, using blue from the ocean, green from the forest, pink from the sunset and violet from the dawn. He covered the outside of the shell with the colour of rocks so the other sea creatures would leave Paua alone.
We painted the paua shell using dabbing techniques. We finished it off with shiny gold koru shapes. We think they are fabulous!
