Sharing at Assembly

We shared our koru paintings at assembly this afternoon. We read the Maori legend called Tangaroa's Gift. It told us how the paua got it's beautiful shell. Tanagaroa, God of the Sea used the greens from the forest, blues from the ocean, pink from the sunset and purple from the sunrise, to make the beautiful paua shell. We used these colours in out art work. We think our work looks fantastic. What do you think?

Kaci and Silva did a perfect job of speaking at assembly. Lovely clear speaking girls.

More great readers...

Here are Cameron, Crystal, Jazmin and Lucas being great readers and buddies at buddy reading time.

Buddy Reading Time

Here are Silva, Jordan, Connor and Ramanaia at buddy reading time. We buddy read at the beginning of reading time each day for ten minutes. We read our new books for the day to our buddies. Our buddies are really good at helping us use our reading strategies if we get stuck on a word.

Great Perseverance

Well done Lucas. You worked really hard at reading activity time today to finish this big floor puzzle all by yourself. You showed great perseverance. You didn't give up when it got a bit hard. We are proud of you.

What If...?

We have been finding out about the water cycle. We wrote some silly stories about evaporation. Here are some of them...

What if apples evaporated? I think it would be nice because I like apples. The whole sky would turn red and green. We would have to live on apple crumble. Jazmin

What if puppies evaporated? It would rain puppies and anyone could have a puppy. What if colours evaporated? It would rain colours and everyone would have coloured hair. Lucy

What if bees evaporated? Bees might flutter as hard as they can so they flutter down. If it was raining with bees, bees would come out of your taps. Cameron

What if chocolate evaporated? You will get to eat chocolate. You will swim in the chocolate water. Lucas

Jokes

We love sharing jokes in Room 10. Here's a great one from Jazmin this week...

How many teachers does it take to fix the photocopier?

Who cares. As long as it keeps then out of the classroom.

And one from William...
Why did the banana got to hospital?

It wasn't peeling well.

Remember our joke sharing time is Wednesday mornings. Keep a look out for some good jokes. Post them into us with the comment option.

Finding Out About Sinking and Floating

Jordan, Sara, Silva, Kane, Jazmin, Syun and Ramanaia are testing objects to find out if they will sink or float.
We predicted that the heavy things will sink and the light things will float.
After testing our prediction we found out that most of the things that floated were plastic, and most of the things that sank were metal.
Jazmin asked an interesting question: "Why do boats float because they are very heavy?" We are going to find out. We will keep you posted.

Another sneaky crocodile from Connor...

The Great Ice Cube Competiton

This term our Inquiry study is all about water. Today we had an ice cube competition. In pairs, we put our ice cubes in a place where we thought they would stay frozen for the longest time. Some of us put them in the cloakroom because we thought it was the coldest place in the school. Some of us put them outside, and some of us put them under furniture and in cupboards. We checked on our ice cubes every hour. Olivia and Syun put theirs outside behind the senior block. Their ice cube was the last one to melt. It didn't melt until after lunch. We think the heaters helped the ice cubes inside to melt more quickly than the ones outside. Behind the senior block was definitely the coldest place at our school today. Well done Olivia and Syun.
